Villa Mushara stands on private mopane woodland just outside the Von Lindequist Gate, roughly eight kilometres from Etosha National Park in northern Namibia. Only two freestanding villas share the ground, each turned toward its own small waterhole. Kudu, impala and Damara dik-dik come to drink there through the day, within easy sight of the plunge pool and the terrace.

Marc and Mariza Pampe built the original Mushara Lodge on family farmland, and later added the two villas. When Eos Capital acquired the Mushara Collection in 2021, Marc Pampe stayed on through the handover, and Johan and Jennifer Fourie took up the day-to-day running. The rhythm the Pampes set still holds. Long game drives reach into Etosha by day, and the nights bring a quiet return to a villa set well apart from the main lodge.
Each villa runs to 140 square metres and is built for slow days. A king bed sits under a mosquito net, and a separate lounge holds a stone fireplace and a small library. The open-plan bathroom is given over to stone basins and a standalone tub, with showers inside and out, a writing desk, and a HiFi loaded with a collection of CDs chosen for the room.

Outside, a wide timber veranda carries the sun loungers and the private plunge pool, with a thatched sala day bed set back into the bush. Heidrun Diekmann designed the interiors, setting limestone, heavy timber beams and screed floors against linen, brass and copper. It is a plain, cool palette that lets the woodland beyond the veranda do the talking.
The main draw lies inside Etosha itself, and after dark a guide walks guests to and from the villas, since wildlife moves freely across the reserve. Morning and afternoon game drives run in custom-built, open-sided Land Rovers, their tiered seating angled for a clear view. They reach the eastern waterholes where elephants gather in large herds and lions come to hunt, and black rhino, leopard, giraffe, zebra and plains game fill out the days between. It is one of the great stretches of country in Namibia, and the villa sits at the edge of it.
The pace, though, belongs to each villa. A fully inclusive stay comes with its own ranger, tracker and vehicle, so the route and the hours are yours to set. Walking is not allowed inside the park, but guided bush walks run on the private Mushara Reserve, led by armed rangers and given over to tracking, flora and birding. At the neighbouring Mushara Lodge, a spa opened with two treatment rooms, its massages worked with indigenous Baobab, Marula and Kalahari Melon oils.

Dining flexes to the day. Meals arrive privately in the villa or on the terrace, or at Mushara Lodge, where a wine cellar and lounge sit a short walk away. The kitchen blends European technique with Namibian game and produce from the lodge’s own organic gardens, and keeps a vegan and gluten-free menu developed with a consultant chef. Some evenings turn to a barbecue under the stars, the Mushara team bringing singing and dancing to the fire.

The villas suit couples and adults travelling together rather than families with young children, and the minimum age is twelve; families are pointed instead to the collection’s separate Mushara Bush Camp, with its child-minders and playground. Villa Mushara takes two bookings at most, which keeps the reserve, its guides and its waterholes at a genuinely private scale.

The eastern side of Etosha is one of the easier corners of Namibia to reach. You land at Windhoek's Hosea Kutako International, and from there it is either a light aircraft from Eros airport, around an hour and a half to the Mushara reserve's own airstrip or the nearby Mokuti strip, or a drive of about five hours north, almost all of it on tarred road through Tsumeb.
We can arrange a private charter, typically a Cessna Caravan or Pilatus PC-12, so the flying fits your dates rather than a set circuit, and the light aircraft take soft bags rather than hard cases. The villas stand eight kilometres from the Von Lindequist Gate, so the park entrance is minutes away rather than a morning's drive.
Treat Etosha as a seasonal malaria area, never a malaria-free one. The park sits in Namibia's north, and the UK's official travel health advice puts the higher-risk months at December to April, when antimalarial tablets are recommended for these northern regions, with the risk dropping to low from May to November. The CDC lists the same northern regions among those where tablets are usually advised, so the two sets of guidance are not identical.
That is exactly the sort of detail to settle with a travel clinic or your doctor close to departure, since the advice is reviewed regularly. Whatever the month, long sleeves and repellent after sunset are the habit worth keeping.
Hot days and cool nights for most of the year, with genuine cold on winter mornings. Game drives from June to August can start near freezing in an open vehicle and finish in warm sunshine, while October builds real heat ahead of the summer rains, which arrive in afternoon bursts between about December and April.
Pack light, breathable clothing in neutral colours, a proper warm layer for early starts and evenings, and strong sun protection, because the glare off the white pan is fierce. Swimwear earns its place for the plunge pool, and binoculars for the waterhole in front of the villa.
For classic big-game viewing, the dry months from May to October are the pick. As the bush thins and surface water disappears, wildlife concentrates at the waterholes in Etosha's eastern sector, and sightings get steadily stronger toward the end of the dry season.
The green months from November to April offer a different trip: newborn plains game, superb birding, dramatic storm light over the pan, and far fewer vehicles on the park roads. If the pan itself floods, flamingos arrive in numbers. Tell us what you most want to see and we will set the timing around it.
The villas are sold fully inclusive. That covers all meals, teas, coffees and cakes, the minibar and standard bar drinks, laundry, and the private morning and afternoon game drives with the villa's own guide, tracker and vehicle. Park entrance and conservation fees and VAT sit inside the rate as well, along with mineral water on the vehicle, and wifi is free in the public areas.
Spa treatments at the neighbouring lodge and premium imported drinks fall outside the rate. Tell us early if either belongs in your trip and we will price everything before you commit to anything.
Yes. Etosha's road network is open to private vehicles between sunrise and sunset, daily park fees apply, and with the Von Lindequist Gate eight kilometres away a self-driven day among the eastern waterholes is simple to arrange.
