Karisia Walking Safaris

A distinctive blend of immersive wildlife experiences and cultural encounters in a pristine conservancy setting

Flexibility is a cornerstone of the Karisia experience. Each safari is tailored to align with guests’ preferences, whether it involves daily explorations from Tumaren or embarking on multi-day treks across the conservancy. This customization allows for a profound immersion into the region’s landscapes and wildlife, ensuring a genuinely personalized adventure. The itineraries are not fixed, allowing for a fluid and spontaneous journey that evolves with the guests’ desires and expanding interests.

The heart of Karisia lies in its team, many of whom have dedicated decades to the operation. This longevity speaks volumes about the respect and bond Kerry Glen has cultivated with her staff. Their in-depth knowledge and commitment provide an unparalleled safari experience, enhancing guests’ understanding and appreciation of the region. The team’s expertise and passion are pivotal in creating the unique Karisia narrative, something that is, in our opinion, one of the finest safari experiences available in Kenya today.

Guest Rooms

Karisia Walking Safaris offers two distinct accommodation styles. The ‘classic safari’ features lighter canvas hunting tents, providing a genuine bush experience. The ‘luxury safari’, in contrast, boasts larger traditional safari tents with enhanced sleeping arrangements. Both options include freshly dug long-drop toilets and safari-style bucket showers with hot water. The luxury option, however, provides private bathroom facilities, adding an extra layer of comfort to the wilderness experience and ensuring guests enjoy both simplicity and elegance amidst the natural backdrop of Laikipia.

Activities

At Karisia Walking Safaris, activities are designed to immerse guests in the diverse ecosystem of Laikipia. Game drives and guided walks provide intimate wildlife encounters, while night drives reveal the nocturnal wonders of the bush. Cultural interactions, including visits to local Maasai communities, enrich the experience. For the adventurous, rock climbing on established routes offers a thrilling landscape perspective. Each activity is thoughtfully curated to deepen guests’ understanding and appreciation of the region’s natural and cultural heritage.

Conservation and Sustainability

Karisia Walking Safaris is deeply committed to conservation and sustainability. Tumaren Ranch, the heart of their operations, has seen a remarkable resurgence of wildlife, including predators and plains game, due to dedicated protection efforts. The safaris actively support local and sustainable honey production through Ewaso River Honey, established by Kerry Glen. This initiative not only aids in preserving the Acacia mellifera shrub, crucial for honey production, but also combats environmental threats, like charcoal cutting, thereby fostering a sustainable economic model for local communities.
