Amboseli and Chyulu Hills

Located in the Kajiado South Constituency of Kenya, Amboseli National Park covers an area of 392 square kilometers. Amboseli National Park houses a series of swamps nourished by the meltwaters of Mt. Kilimanjaro. These wetlands serve as year-round water sources, making the park an oasis in an otherwise parched region. The swamps are lifelines for species adapted to arid conditions but reliant on periodic hydration.

Among the myriad species residing in Amboseli, the African elephant is particularly noteworthy, especially for the large tuskers that made this area such a draw for wildlife photographers. Birdwatchers will find the region rich in diversity, with over 400 bird species recorded. The swamp regions are particularly attractive to wading birds like the African Jacana and Yellow-billed Stork. Large predators, such as lions and cheetahs, can frequently be seen stalking the grasslands, making the area a site of interest for varied wildlife photography. The geology of Amboseli is equally fascinating. A prehistoric volcanic eruption shaped the region’s striking topography, leading to the park’s diverse ecosystem. From acacia woodland to expansive wetlands, these varied landscapes support an abundance of life.
