Rebero hill rises in Kicukiro, southeastern Kigali, twenty minutes from the centre and thirty from the airport, high enough that the city’s noise falls away. The master bedroom takes a king bed and an en-suite with a bath, and three further doubles carry convertible king beds, each with its own bathroom. A veranda runs the length of the house, catching the morning light and the ridgelines beyond.
The private chef cooks to individual taste, not to a set menu, and serves it wherever suits, on the veranda, in the garden or at the indoor table. Much of the produce comes from Rupari Farm near Lake Mugesera, where hydroponic greenhouses grow vegetables for the villa and its sister restaurants. Guests curious about a meal’s source can visit the market or the farm with the chef.

Kigali itself can be arranged from the villa on request. A half-day or full-day tour takes in the city, and a traditional lunch can be booked directly with the Nyamirambo Women’s Centre. For a family or a group who want the capital on their own schedule, that combination removes most of the reasons to go elsewhere for the day, and the house stays the place you return to each evening. Closer to hand, the pool and the spa are within the grounds, and the market can be visited with the kitchen.
The house suits guests travelling for work as well as those on holiday, offering privacy and a base for meetings or a few days of concentrated time. The airport is a short drive, the city centre closer still, and Rebero’s position keeps the villa apart from both without adding much travel time. Volcanoes National Park and its mountain gorillas are roughly two and a half to three hours away by road, and Akagera National Park around two and a half hours, so both are visited as onward stays with their own nights rather than outings from the city. Gorilla permits are capped daily and need to be secured well in advance.
For a family or group taking the whole house, it works well to gather here before the parks, and again at the end before the flights home. We hold the permits and the park lodges and build the itinerary around your nights at the villa.
Kigali stands at around 1,500 metres, and the cooler air of the hills keeps mosquitoes scarcer than in the warm lowlands to the east.
Even so, both the UK's official travel health advice and the CDC treat the whole of Rwanda as a malaria risk area and recommend antimalarial tablets wherever in the country you stay, so the city's altitude is not a reason to skip them. No part of Rwanda is malaria-free.

The altitude keeps Kigali mild the whole year, so the decision rests on rain rather than temperature. The long dry season from June to mid-September brings the steadiest weather, with July the driest month, and the shorter dry spell from mid-December to February is a good second window. April is the wettest month, and March, May, October and November carry the other rains.
If the villa is bookending a gorilla or safari itinerary, the dry months help twice over, since they also give the firmest trails in the parks.
One or two nights at each end of a trip is the usual pattern, a first night to land softly after the long-haul flight and a last one before a late departure. Because the whole house comes as one booking, it also suits a longer stay when work, a family gathering or a slower start to the trip calls for it.

Yes. The villa provides free, fast wifi throughout the property, so calls, video and email all run from the house rather than from a hotel lobby. As a city property it is the dependable end of a Rwandan itinerary for staying in touch, ahead of the parks, where the signal thins the further you go.
If part of the stay needs to work as an office, tell us when we plan and we will keep those days in the city rather than on the road.
The villa can arrange a private car with an experienced driver guide on request, so nobody in the group ever has to navigate the city themselves. We arrange your airport transfers as part of the trip, and if you would like a car and driver held for the whole stay, we will set that up from the start.
Kigali is a compact and orderly capital, and with a driver on call the memorials, markets and restaurants are all within easy reach of the villa's hillside.
