Sarara Camp

Sarara Camp distinguishes itself through an immersive conservation experience within Kenya’s Namunyak Conservancy

Visitors to Sarara have the unique opportunity to visit the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, a short walk from the camp. Reteti is a haven for rescued and orphaned elephants, and guests can observe caretaking practices and learn about conservation efforts firsthand, granting an enriching glimpse into the complexities of wildlife rehabilitation.

In a significant shift in conservation dynamics, in 2022 Sarara disengaged from the Northern Rangelands Trust, embarking on an independent path. This change carries potential ramifications for conservation strategies within the region and underscores Sarara’s role as a forerunner in autonomous conservation efforts.

Guest Rooms

The accommodation at Sarara Camp comprises six expansive tented chalets, where the focus is on integration with the environment without compromising on comfort. The chalets are canvas constructs with walls predominantly made of mosquito netting, ensuring a close connection with the wilderness. The interiors are adorned with rugs and furnished with armchairs, cultivating a refined atmosphere. Behind the beds, a partial wall leads to an indoor bathroom, equipped with plush bathrobes, a stylish washbasin, a mirror, and a modern flush toilet. For an al fresco experience, guests can venture along a short walkway to an outdoor shower and toilet, some offering views of the local waterhole. The chalets benefit from a continuous supply of hot water, courtesy of solar energy.

Conservation and Sustainability

The Sarara Foundation champions the protection of Matthews Forest and local Samburu communities. Through initiatives aimed at safeguarding biodiversity and mitigating climate change, the foundation confronts challenges like urbanization and loss of cultural identity. This approach fosters a conservation model where wildlife, indigenous peoples, and the environment coexist in a symbiotic balance, crucial for the health of our planet.
