Kigelia Ruaha

Situated on elevated ground overlooking the Ifuguru sand river in Ruaha National Park, Kigelia Camp gains its identity from its proximity to a grove of sausage trees, known scientifically as Kigelia africana. Designed with a focus on minimal environmental disruption, the camp comprises six strategically placed tents, offering a balance between the unadulterated wilderness experience and refined living standards. Established in 2008, Kigelia deftly integrates basic tented accommodations with features one might expect in a permanent establishment—such as hot showers, flushing toilets, and quality furniture.

The communal area, or the mess tent, serves as a dual-purpose space. One end of the tent features a lounge with mosquito-net screens, furnished with a sofa, chairs, and a table adorned with coffee table books. In contrast, the opposite end of the tent houses a robust dining table where meals are generally served, although alternate al fresco dining options under the stars are available. Preceding the mess tent and overlooking the river are directors’ chairs for added relaxation, accompanied by a modest campfire serving as the focal point for pre-dinner beverages.
