Jongomero Camp

Jongomero Camp is sited in the southernmost reaches of Ruaha National Park, near the eponymous Jongomero River. The area is far removed from typical safari circuits, ensuring a level of privacy rarely found in other locations. While this seclusion makes for an intimate wilderness experience, guests should be aware of the tsetse flies in the area, which are notorious for their painful bites. Yet, for those who seek solace, the camp is an optimal choice. Additionally, should guests wish to explore the northern part of Ruaha National Park, this is feasible with the use of a private vehicle.

Emerging from a 1995 national advertisement by TANAPA to expand tourism in Ruaha National Park, Jongomero Camp was established with a focus on high-end remote tourism. Construction began in December 2001, after receiving formal approval, and the camp opened its doors to the public in August 2002. The design of the camp was initially overseen by Kenyan artist Tonio Trzebinski, who was, tragically, murdered during the project. Neil Rocher subsequently took the helm and crafted the elevated bar and lounge that overlook the Jongomero Sand River.
