From Naboisho's Plains to Michamvi's Lagoon
This route pairs two very different sides of East Africa across 12 nights and two stays. It opens in the Maasai Mara, specifically the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, a community-owned block of grassland and old acacia bordering Kenya’s national reserve, where capped vehicle numbers allow off-road driving, night drives and walking. It then crosses to Tanzania’s Michamvi Peninsula on Zanzibar’s south-east coast, where a reef-protected lagoon stays swimmable at every tide.
You start with four nights of game drives and walks led by Maasai guides, lions, leopards and cheetahs the daily business, before eight nights of sea, dhow sails and warm-water snorkelling. Both stays are small and quiet: Leopard Hill has six tented rooms in the conservancy, and Zawadi is an adults-only clifftop hotel of ocean-front villas.

Game Drives and Walks in Naboisho
Four nights in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, a community-owned block of savannah bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve, where lions, leopards and cheetahs are the daily business alongside spotted hyenas, jackals and the occasional wild dog or serval. Capped vehicle numbers mean a vehicle can leave the track to follow a hunting cheetah, night drives run, and walks go out on foot with an armed ranger. Waterholes near camp draw elephants, giraffes, warthogs, waterbuck and impala. Leopard Hill has six round tents on raised timber decks, each with a fire pit, a veranda and a canvas roof that slides back above the bed.

Reef, Dhows and Lagoon Swimming on the Coast
After the Mara, eight nights on the Michamvi Peninsula on Zanzibar's south-east coast, where a reef-protected lagoon stays swimmable and snorkellable at every tide. Days move with the sea: sunrise over the Indian Ocean, wooden dhows crossing the horizon, and a staircase cut into the cliff down to a private sandy cove. Coral reefs off Unguja hold reef fish, rays, octopus and turtles. Zawadi Hotel is adults-only, a small collection of ocean-front villas above an infinity pool, each a hundred square metres with a freestanding bathtub by the window; dining is all-inclusive, built around the daily catch and the hotel's own shamba.
