Rwanda's Volcanoes and a Private Island
This trip links two very different parts of East Africa across 8 nights. It opens in Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda, where the Virunga volcanoes rise over forest, cultivated farmland and the mountain gorillas that draw travellers here. It then crosses to the Zanzibar Archipelago and Mnemba Island, a private island off the northeast coast of Unguja, ringed by its own reef in the Indian Ocean.
At Gorilla’s Nest the days start early, with guides and trackers preparing you for treks led by national park rangers, and afternoons left for the spa and the volcano views. On Mnemba the pace follows the tide, with open-air bandas, meals when you like and a reef within reach. Both stays are calm, private and closely served.

Volcanoes National Park and the Gorillas
Three nights at Gorilla's Nest, a forest lodge among eucalyptus trees at the foot of the Virunga volcanoes, minutes from the entrance of Volcanoes National Park. Mornings begin early, with the team preparing you the evening before and handling the timings and transfers so you reach the trailhead ready to walk. Treks are led by national park guides and trackers. Afternoons turn to the spa, the gardens or the volcano views from your deck, an unhurried way to recover between walks at altitude.

Mnemba Island and the Reef
Five nights on Mnemba Island, reached by a 90-minute drive across Unguja from Stone Town and a 20-minute boat crossing, with arrivals made by wading ashore. The island is barely 1.5 km around, fringed with coral sand and casuarina pines, and circled by its own reef. Twelve open-air bandas sit beneath the trees, each with a private beach lounge and personal sala. Meals follow the guest rather than a fixed schedule, and the surrounding reef holds around 600 species of fish within the marine conservation area.
