Central Serengeti Walking and the Southeast Coast

Eight nights across Tanzania in two parts. The first runs in the central Serengeti near Seronera, on the edge of a Wilderness Zone closed to general game-viewing vehicles, where the day is built around going on foot. The second moves to Bwejuu Beach on Zanzibar’s southeast coast, a long quiet stretch of white sand behind coconut palms, with a barrier reef about a kilometre offshore.

You walk the Serengeti with armed, trained guides, reading tracks and following animal movement at ground level, with game drives in the good country around the restricted area. On the coast the days take their shape from the tide, with swimming, diving and reef walks. Pembazoni is a comfortable, capably run walking camp; Breezes is a hand-built beach resort in Swahili-Omani plantation style.

Daily Itinerary Breakdown

Walking the Central Serengeti

Four nights near Seronera in the central Serengeti, on the edge of a Wilderness Zone that stays closed to general game-viewing vehicles. The day is built around going on foot, with armed, trained guides leading half-day and full-day walks straight from camp, while game drives run in the good country around the restricted area. This is dense predator country, with lions on the nearby kopjes and elephants in the surrounding land. Pembazoni Camp is a comfortable, capably run walking camp of canvas tents on wooden beds, each with a private veranda facing the plains.

Bwejuu Beach and the Barrier Reef

From the Serengeti the trip closes with four nights on Bwejuu Beach on Zanzibar's southeast coast, a long quiet stretch of white sand held behind coconut palms and bougainvillea. The days take their shape from the tide: swimming, kitesurfing and sailing at high water, and at low water local guides walk you out to rock pools of starfish, sea urchins, crabs and juvenile reef fish. The barrier reef breaks about a kilometre offshore, with fourteen dive sites within reach through a PADI five-star dive centre. Breezes Beach Club & Spa is a hand-built resort in Swahili-Omani plantation style, with makuti thatch over open-sided rooms, hand-carved teak and four dining venues.
