Remote Community Trekking In Uganda

This journey through southern Uganda explores the cultural and ecological variety of the Albertine Rift on foot. Beginning in Rwanda and moving into Uganda’s lake country, guests travel slowly through remote communities before reaching the volcanic highlands of Mgahinga and the dense forests of Bwindi. The route highlights the Rift’s varied landscapes, from crater lakes and terraced hillsides to montane rainforest, all linked by sustained trekking. Encounters with mountain gorillas are central, yet the experience is equally about time spent with rural communities and the rhythms of life lived in the highlands.

The Albertine Rift is one of Africa’s most biologically diverse regions, home to endemic primates, forest elephants, and an exceptional range of birdlife. Moving on foot encourages close engagement with this environment and its people, offering an unhurried perspective on how culture and ecology shape one another. Comfortable lodges at key points balance nights in simple expedition camps. By the end, guests will have walked a line through one of Africa’s most compelling cultural and natural landscapes.
