A Safari That Explores the Serengeti
This safari covers three distinct areas of the Serengeti ecosystem, each offering a different character of wildlife experience. The northern Serengeti around Kogatende places guests within range of the Mara River crossings, where columns of wildebeest and zebra funnel towards the water between June and October. An eight-tent mobile camp provides a small, low-impact base in a part of the park that sees far less vehicle traffic than the central corridor. Further east, Namiri Plains holds an established reputation for its big cats and broad savannah views that define what many people picture when they think of the Serengeti.
The itinerary closes at Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with one of the highest concentrations of large mammals on the continent. Entering at first light allows guests to avoid the heavier vehicle traffic that builds through the day. The combination of northern plains, eastern Serengeti, and the Crater floor covers varied terrain and consistently strong game viewing, with seasonal highlights such as the river crossings adding a further layer depending on the time of year.

-
What is included in the safari?
-
All internal flights, road transfers, accommodation on a full-board or all-inclusive basis (depending on the camp), park fees, shared or private game drives as specified, and walking safaris where available. Laundry is included at most camps. A private guide and vehicle can be arranged for part or all of the itinerary.
-
What is excluded from the safari?
-
International flights, visa fees, travel insurance, gratuities, and premium drinks where not covered by the camp’s all-inclusive rate. Optional activities such as hot air balloon flights and helicopter excursions are charged separately.
-
Can this safari be private or group based?
-
This itinerary is designed as a private safari with a dedicated vehicle and guide. Shared guiding can be incorporated on certain days to reduce cost, but the default is a fully private experience throughout.
-
Can we customise this itinerary?
-
Every element can be adjusted. Camps, durations, routes, and activities are all built around the client rather than a fixed template.
-
When is the best time to visit the Serengeti?
-
The Serengeti offers strong game viewing year-round, but the experience changes with the seasons. The northern Serengeti sees the Mara River crossings between June and October, while the southern plains host the calving herds from January to March. Green season (April and May) brings fewer visitors and excellent birdlife.
-
How many days do you need for a Serengeti safari?
-
A minimum of five nights allows enough time to cover two distinct regions of the park without rushing between them. Longer itineraries of eight to ten nights open up the possibility of combining the Serengeti with Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire, or a walking safari in a wildlife management area.
-
Which airport do you fly into for a Serengeti safari?
-
Most safaris begin at Kilimanjaro International Airport, with a short road transfer to Arusha before connecting to the Serengeti by scheduled light aircraft. Dar es Salaam is an alternative starting point, with direct flights into several Serengeti airstrips.
-
What wildlife can you see on a Serengeti safari?
-
The Serengeti supports all of the large predators: lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and wild dog, alongside large herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, and elephant. The eastern Serengeti around Namiri Plains is particularly strong for big cat sightings. Birdlife is varied throughout, with over 500 recorded species.
