January

The rains typically peak, turning the desert into a verdant wonderland. The Auob and Nossob rivers may flow intermittently. This lush environment attracts antelopes, zebras, and giraffes, with predators such as lions and cheetahs in pursuit. The downside: potential road closures due to flooding.

February

Rainfall continues, ensuring plentiful water and food for herbivores. The region bursts with life, offering excellent bird-watching. With abundant prey, predator sightings remain frequent. However, this month can be quite humid, potentially impacting comfort.

March

As the rain subsides, vast open plains are dotted with blooming wildflowers. Wildebeests give birth, leading to intense predator-prey interactions. While temperatures are still high, the humidity drops slightly.

April

The transition from wet to dry season begins. Grasses start to yellow, but waterholes remain full. This landscape shift pushes some species to migrate, but larger predators remain, capitalizing on the abundance.

May

The dry season is settling in. Vegetation becomes sparser, and animals start to cluster around available water sources. This congregation makes spotting wildlife easier, especially predators like lions awaiting their prey.

June

Cooler temperatures prevail, offering comfortable safaris. Grasslands turn golden brown. With diminishing water sources, animals like elephants and springboks concentrate around the remaining ones, presenting prime viewing opportunities.

July

Mid-winter in Central Kalahari means cold nights but moderate daytime temperatures. Visibility improves as trees lose foliage, enhancing the safari experience. Wildlife sightings around water sources are abundant, particularly near Deception Valley.

August

As the driest month, animals’ dependence on dwindling water sources intensifies. Predators exploit this, making for thrilling game drives. However, dusty conditions might occasionally obscure visibility.

September

The prelude to the wet season, temperatures start to rise. With scarcer vegetation, herbivores are more visible, but they’re also more vigilant, aware of predators lurking nearby. This dance of survival becomes a mesmerizing spectacle.

October

This month heralds the anticipation of the rains. It’s hot and dry, with sporadic showers. Wildlife sightings are frequent as animals are drawn to the few remaining waterholes. Birds begin their migratory patterns, adding to the variety of species on display.

November

The first substantial rains can arrive, triggering a transformation in the landscape. Migrant birds return, and the first green shoots appear, heralding the wet season’s onset. This transitional period offers a unique blend of both wet and dry season experiences.

December

The wet season is in full swing. The Central Kalahari blossoms, with grasslands and pans rejuvenated. Herbivore offspring, especially springboks and impalas, are born, attracting predators and ensuring dramatic wildlife encounters.
