Group journey

Cameroon: Indigenous Cultures and Forests

Cameroon is unique in the sense that the remote corners of the country are still home to some of the most traditional indigenous groups found anywhere in Africa. Whilst the future of many indigenous groups such as these lies in the balance, tourism, when implemented delicately, can be a powerful tool to allow these groups to make their own decisions on their future.

During this journey we will travel north to The Faro Valley, home to several distinct cultural groups, primarily the Mborono, Dowayo and Dupa people. Before camping among The Baka people. As with all our expeditions of this nature, there are no set itineraries, no cultural shows, and our presence among these people is done so strictly on their terms, not ours.

Some of the amazing things you’ll experience

Meet Your Guide

Joan Riera spent his childhood between contrasting lives in both west Africa and Spain’s Catalan region. This unique combination led him to study anthropology at London’s Richmond University, part of a journey that has led him to continue his studies of traditional African cultures, and to become one of the best experts available on the region today.

It is this unique childhood and academic background that enables Joan to both understand and importantly, empathise with, indigenous cultures whilst his infectious personality enables him to operate as a guide. It would be fair to say, it is the fact that he did not train specifically as a guide that makes him such a great one.
